Quick Tips

When feeling sad, observe your thoughts and give yourself time to get back to normal

When we are feeling sad, the world seems like a dull and uninteresting place. We have no desire to do anything, and nothing makes us pleased. In such times, it is very important to understand that what we are feeling is completely normal. Everyone feels sad from time to time, this is a part of life. When feeling sad, we usually are practicing negative self-talk, and this makes the situation even worse.

Quick tips to follow while feeling sad:

  1. Know that what you are experiencing is completely normal and try to relax.
  2. Observe the negative self-talk that goes on in your head. Do not try to force it to stop, but rather, know that this negativity goes with feeling sad – it is absolutely normal and will pass.
  3. If it works, challenge your negative thoughts. If it doesn’t, give yourself time to get back to normal.
  4. Do not make any vital decisions about your life while you are in a state of sadness. Wait while the feelings of sadness are gone and then make the important decisions and conclusions.
  5. Develop the habit of practicing optimism, this will help in the long run. Feelings of sadness would then rarely come and quickly go away.
